In the heart of Old San Juan, where cobblestone streets wind through centuries-old architecture, a haunting story floats on the Caribbean breeze. Locals say that if you’re out past midnight, you might encounter El Fantasma del Viejo San Juan—the Ghost of Old San Juan.
The legend tells of a soldier, a dashing young man stationed in San Juan during the Spanish colonial era. This soldier fell hopelessly in love with a local woman, and the two planned to marry in secret, hidden from her disapproving father. But fate had other plans. On the night they were to meet and elope, a storm raged over the city. The young soldier waited at their meeting place, but she never came. Heartbroken, he died that night, though whether it was from a broken heart or a more sinister cause remains unknown.
Locals say his ghost still wanders the streets, searching for his lost love. Visitors to Old San Juan sometimes report a sudden chill, as if someone passed close by, whispering a name they can’t quite hear. Others claim to see a shadowy figure in an old military uniform, vanishing around corners and into the alleys. To this day, the soldier searches, hoping one day to reunite with his lost love under the starry Puerto Rican sky.

My husband is Puerto Rican and I wish you would publish a book with these stories. I think they would be fascinating.
