Río Grande Home Attack — Children Among the Victims

A True Crime Snapshot by Penelope McGrath

Content note: This article discusses lethal violence against children.

Presumption of innocence: No suspects were publicly identified at the time of reporting. No arrests had been announced as of September 4, 2025.

Home is supposed to be the light that never goes out. Late on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, gunmen stormed a residence in Río Grande, leaving behind horror and unanswered questions. Two children—a boy of 8 and a girl of 13—were killed; a 12-year-old sibling was hospitalized. Three adults were wounded, including the children’s mother.

Case at a Glance

  • When & Where: Late evening, February 12, 2025, Río Grande (northeastern Puerto Rico).
  • Victims: Two minors deceased (8 and 13); one sibling injured; three adults injured (27, 51, 66), including the mother.
  • Scene: Hundreds of bullet casings recovered; investigation suggests a frenzied attack.
  • Investigation: Ongoing; no arrests announced as of 9/4/2025. Possible motives under review; none confirmed.

What Happened

Police responded to a barrage of gunfire at a private home. The volume of shell casings signals a coordinated, sustained assault. Authorities noted a man inside the residence facing separate murder charges and due in court—fueling speculation about motive—yet investigators have not confirmed a link.

Why It Resonates with Gabriela’s Case

Like Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario’s killing, this case tears at the island’s heart because its victims are young. Gabriela died amid peers after a town festival; Río Grande’s violence invaded a home. Both force a question that’s impossible to dodge: Are we doing enough to keep kids safe in every space—public and private?

When a home becomes a battlefield, the whole island loses its breath.

What We Still Need to Know

  • Whether ballistics tie the weapons to other crimes
  • How the attackers approached and fled the scene
  • Any confirmed motive or target identification
  • Protective measures for surviving minors and witnesses

Within moments, she was gone.  Witnesses describe a gut-wrenching scene: a stranger ambushed her, forced her into a car, and vanished into the dark. Puerto Rico awoke to the sound of another woman missing. Ten Days of Dread: The Search for Rosimar Rosimar’s family launched a desperate search. Flyers, posts, prayers, and pleas. Local authorities joined in. So did neighbors, volunteers, and strangers who saw their own daughters in Rosimar’s eyes. But dread set in. This article delves into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, the challenges faced during the search, and the broader implications for travelers exploring unfamiliar terrains. The Disappearance On February 23, 2025, Abdur Rahman embarked on a hike in El Yunque with a group of fellow tourists. Around 4 p.m., Rahman became separated from the group. Puerto Rico’s Darkest Legends: La Llorona, El Chupacabra & More

Welcome to my Library of Shadows Step softly. Puerto Rico doesn’t just have beaches kissed by sunlight—it has rivers that echo with cries, fields where creatures prowl unseen, and mountains heavy with whispers. These legends don’t sit neatly in storybooks; they haunt the island’s collective memory, shaping how we see the night, the forest, and even each other. In this corner of my library, let’s explore three of the island’s most enduring mysteries: La Llorona , El Chupacabra , and the eerie spirits said to linger in El Yunque’s mist. La Llorona: The Cry by the River The tale of La Llorona drifts from Mexico across Latin America and into Puerto Rico, but here the legend has a distinctly local chill. They say she walks by rivers and streams, her wail sharp enough to cut through the chorus of coquís. Some whisper she drowned her children and wanders forever in regret; others say she appears as a warning before storms or tragedies. Ask an abuela, and you’ll hear it as both caut...
